How to Survive the Data World 101

Charles Darwin once said. "it is not the stronger of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent but the one most responsive to change."

The data world is constantly changing. Some days are spent brushing up on the latest marketing strategies to figure out the right next data tool feature and other days we’re buried in finding the best way to separate direct dials from corporate dials.

Whatever the day may bring, we are sure to experience an abundance of change. EMM’s VP of Operations, Eliza Epstein and Client Success Manager, Dan Currier weigh in and give their favorite tips on surviving in a data driven world.

"Be passionate! Data science is a whole new universe just waiting to be explored!" - Eliza Epstein

  • Take small organized bites out of your todo list. Taking on large chunks of data or projects hinders your scope, making it difficult to plot out your goals in a transparent manner.
  • When it comes to data solutions, sometimes the simplest answer is the most efficient. While the more accurate or poetic thoughts can be attractive - they often result in work for work's sake
  • Read between the rows. Empirical data, really looking through it for the story, can tell you a lot more than than theoretical facts and figures.
  • When it comes to data, the numbers don't lie. Testing, analyzing and knowing what you're working with numbers wise is imperative.

"Don't be a salesperson, be a problem solver" - Dan Currier

  • Really listen to your customers, the solution to their problem might be something that hasn't been created yet but that doesn't mean it can't be.
  • Have integrity, your product and service provided will travel quickly through the grapevine. It's a small data world.
  • Don't force fit a solution, it won't work and you'll have to try twice as hard to regain the customers trust.
  • The data world is an ever-changing landscape. Read, read, read and read some more.

So whether you’re looking to add qualified prospects to your email database, switch up your outbound marketing strategy or you simply need to get a fresh look at a problem you can’t beat, remember; change is inevitable and without embracing it, sorting the truth and proceeding with the most believable answer, you’ll never survive this ever-changing data universe we live in.
